I think everyone will agree with me that there are a lot of delicious Thai foods. While many will opt for Pad Thai and Tom Yum Goong, there’s a particular restaurant that I will surely visit when I’m in Bangkok, Thailand. That is Heng Chun Seng, which serve Thai Beef Fire Pot using charcoal to keep it warm.
Heng Chun Seng is one of the restaurant that does the Thai Beef Soup extraordinarily well as Thais are very particularly when it comes to cooking beef. Different than the usual western method that they only season it with salt and pepper to retain the beef flavour, Thais on the other side opt for a more fragrant version by using the right combinations of spices and ingredients.
Thai Beef Fire Pot at Heng Chun Seng
Located at the Khlong Toey market, they’re famous for those beef lovers and often packed with people during lunch hours. It’s a middle shop lot where they have indoor dining rooms and 1 of it is with air conditioner on the left hand side. There are also outdoor seating if you prefer.
Right at entrance of the shop, there is a scary looking pots which is used to braise the beef and often a good sign of a delicious beef noodles in Asia region.
Moo Satay (Grilled Pork Skewer)
As a starter, you may order Moo Satay as your appetiser. It’s yellow in colour of the marinade and grilled using charcoal fire in a stick. These are actually pretty good as the meat is not too tough and it’s quite tender to bite on.
While many Moo Satay version in Bangkok might be very sweet, but not for this one. It’s very fragrant with the taste of coconut milk and tumeric spices in the blend. It’s served alongside with the sweet peanut sauce and also pickled shallots.
Maw fai neau buay (หม้อไฟเนื้อเปื่อย) – Thai Beef Fire Pot
I don’t quite enjoy the organs, hence I ordered only the pot with mixed of beef chunks including the braised beef and the beef meatballs. The soup is very fragrant as it’s expertly seasoned with spices such as garlic and shallots. They also throw in the morning glory which soaked up the sweet and fragrant beef soup.
The fire pot is kept warm with charcoal in the furnace looking at the middle of the pot. So while you enjoy your meal, you’re assured that with every bite that you have, the beef and soup is still hot.
The beef chunks are tender and juicy. When you bite into it, it literally melts in your mouth, sending you to the beef heaven. And their beef meatballs are bouncy and fragrant. The taste is exceptionally good!

How to get there: Heng Chun Seng is located near Khlong Toey Market, so you can take the MRT to Khlong Toey station, but then you’ll need to walk across the market to the corner of Thanon Sunthon Kosa and Soi 7. It will take roughly 10-minutes to get there. Or you can grab a taxi to get there.
