When it comes to Dim Sum in Ipoh town, most of the people will head over to Foh San Dim Sum Restaurant. However, over the years, it was mentioned that the quality of food and service not as good as it used to be. So, if you happen to be in Ipoh and want to look for alternative, Yoke Fook Moon Dim Sum is the perfect place to go.

Dim Sum, a traditional Chinese cuisines, is prepared in a small bite-sized portion served in a small steamer baskets. It’s usually served over tea and together, it form a full tea brunch in Chinese style.

To quote Wikipedia, “Dim sum traditionally are served as fully cooked, ready-to-serve dishes. In Cantonese teahouses, carts with dim sum will be served around the restaurant for diners to order from without leaving their seats.”

If you think that because this is an alternative and not many people will be in, then you’re wrong! It’s jam packed with people during the peak hours in the morning and brunch time.

You might even have to queue, if you arrived any time late. 1 thing to note is that the parking there can be quite cumbersome, as a lot of travel buses will make a stop there, and also plenty of locals will be there.

What to order in Yoke Fook Moon Dim Sum?

Well, there isn’t any really specified to be order as 1 of the good thing about Dim Sum is that you get to pick what you want to eat. For a start, you may visit the counter upfront to see what’s available.

And plenty of varieties from the steamer to choose from. Siu Mai (Pork Dumplings) & Har Gao (Prawn Dumplings) will serves as a good start to your order.

Other than that, you may want to try their Loh Mai Kai (Steamed Chicken Glutinous Rice). It’s made from glutinous rice, so it’s sticky and chewy, together with the sauce, it taste sweet & savoury. Definitely worth a try!

Yoke Fook Moon Dim Sum also serves pretty good Egg Tart. If you didn’t know, the egg is custard-like and if it’s fresh, the egg custard will melt in your mouth, leaving a fragrant egg taste.
